The Biting Panties are hand-painted cotton underwear, featuring a beautiful rendering of the vagina dentata as its centerpiece. Each is unique and represents a theme, reflected in its name. The back side is also painted. The underwear is wash resistant up to 30 degrees, and it's better to wash it by hand for longevity.
I use the ancient toothed vulva symbol as a way to reclaim our power and stature as real-life living and bleeding goddesses. Our essence resides beyond definitions of soft and hard, active and passive, good and bad. Healing comes through acknowledging and embracing our shadow side.
The Story:
The Biting Panties were born when I first became a mother. There are no guidelines for the difficult aspects of motherhood, so I turned to the power of art to come to terms with my new role and self. I needed something that would help me process this new experience. Painting panties was also very practical, because I could put them away when my baby needed me, and continue later.
Like most women and free thinkers, I've felt othered by patriarchal and capitalist social structures and the ignorance they breed. Many aspects of our physical and psychological processes and experiences are still taboo, as is abuse and reproductive rights.
Menstruation is supposed to be a shameful secret, motherhood is somehow supposed to happen automatically, and menopause is seen as the time when women go crazy because of aging and losing their sex appeal. Can you believe that the clitoris wasn't even studied until the past decades?
I wasn't prepared that it was normal for a new mother to feel angry or depressed, or that a first birth in later years could trigger peri-menopause.
In the process of creating the Biting Panties collection, I saw how the system we live in has formatted the suppression of the feminine within me – all of us actually, irregardless of gender. The quintessence of that healing process has been the recognition of our connection with everything around.
I believe that remembering that we are communal beings, woven from the same sacred thread of life, is medicine for today's burning world. It's the gift of our mothers, grandmothers and ancestresses, without whose abused wombs we wouldn't be here.
And I also discovered aspects in me which needed to be released, the rage, sadness, and self determination transmuted into a prayer of love through artistic expression.
Creating and wearing the Biting Panties helped me find my own fierce power at the center of my deepest vulnerability.
It is my intention that wearing or displaying these pieces will be an empowering inspiration to you as you reconnect with your inner goddess.

The How:
The Biting Panties are painted on cotton underwear. They are first washed, and stretched. I use different techniques depending on the piece, including freehand, outline, wet, spray and resist painting.
Finally, I iron the dry piece to fix the paint and wash it and iron it again.
And voila, your washable, wearable art is done!
The whole process takes anywhere between 7 to 12 hours in total, although in reality it takes a few days when you include planning and drying times.

This is an intimate item, so I can't accept returns. However, the hand - painted Biting Panties are a unique work of art which you can hang in your space as a guaranteed eye-catcher, for example by stretching them on a round piece of wire, or in a reversible transparent glass frame.
- What kind of material is it?
I've selected the panties to be made of comfortable, breathable organic cotton. I'm confident you will find them a pleasure to wear.
- Can I wash them?
Yes! I've used high quality professional textile paint which is washing machine and light resistant. In a wash machine use up to 30 degrees C. For best results, wash them gently, by hand or delicates program, with mild detergent, in lukewarm water, to slow down natural wear and tear. If you have them hanging on your wall, just rinse the panties to remove dust, once or twice a year. Iron from reverse side on a cotton setting.
- What if I don't like them in person?
I've taken a lot of photos, from the entire picture to details, to make sure you know what to expect.
Every body is different, so the panties are bound to look differently on you than on the model. They are meant to inspire you to love and accept yourself and your body as it is.
Small imperfections are part of the beauty of this handcrafted product.
